Facebook Has Reinvented the NewsPAPER

By January 30, 2014 No Comments

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! On Monday, February 3rd Facebook will release Paper, its new mobile app. The app is designed to change the way we use Facebook and challenge users to think differently about what they’re posting. In essence, it is a play on the newspaper, allowing Facebook users to compile all of their content (currently unorganized on their News Feed) into sections or interests. Paper features a completely different design and layout from the current Facebook app including customization options, a horizontal-sliding touch screen, live previews and high resolution photos and fullscreen videos. Our Senior Web Developer, Alex, brought the app to our attention and we couldn’t be more excited to test it out!

Think about the number of times you miss something important on Facebook because it gets lost in your never-ending, jumble of a News Feed. And I think we can all relate to the tidbits of information shared by our online friends that we would sometimes rather miss (i.e.  friends ranting about their miserable day, relationship drama, what they made for dinner, intense political views etc). With the Paper app, users can easily create and organize sections, (Photography, Sports, Food, Science, etc) that also include content from well-known publications and authorities on the subjects.  Michael Matas, Paper’s product design lead, was quoted as saying, “As you start changing the way you’re displaying this content, we hope that it will change the way people think about posting content. It’s no fun to make a bunch of great stuff if no one ever sees it.” Fox News

We can’t wait to try the app out on Monday and are excited to see the newspaper layout making a comeback in the digital world! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of Facebook’s new Paper.
